One
of RDA's priorities is to provide educational enrichment opportunities
for youth in the Rosedale community and to support the Rosedale-area
public schools. RDA believes it is critical to reach out to young
people and involve them in the community-building process.
R.O.C.K.
(Rosedale Organization for Community Kids): Middle school students participate in this weekly after-school
program, which is led by RDA staff and volunteers. The program engages
youth in group and individual activities, in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
R.O.C.K. is designed to teach and instill teamwork, integrity, respect,
self-esteem, conflict resolution, and social skills. There are also
occasional field trips and guest speakers.
Excellence
in Education: Students at Holy Name, Frank Rushton
Elementary, T.A. Edison Elementary, and Rosedale Middle schools
are rewarded for academic achievement, exemplary behavior, and high
levels of attendance and participation. This program is designed
to give community support to students who are doing well. Students
are recognized after each academic quarter.
Summer
Youth Employment: RDA manages a six-to-eight week summer
employment program providing Rosedale youth with work experience
at a local business in an area of personal interest. This program
provides early employment opportunities for 14-16 year-old youth
who are generally hired less frequently than older youth. Participants
are required to attend job skills training sessions before they
begin working.
